"Merci beaucoup, for a lovely evening...."
Totally cute, albeit little known film, about fun-loving sailors in the British Royal Navy who try to 'smuggle' aboard ship a collection of pretty girls to spice up the sailors' drab life at sea.
Guy Rolfe stars as debonair Captain Maitland in a suave performance, Anne Kimball is his new love, Mary Steele is Jill, and Michael Hordern brings up the rear as Admiral Hewitt. Lots of fluffy fun for lovers of light romantic comedies of the period.
Well-directed by Gilbert Gunn with a comfortable running time of only 79 minutes (I wish they'd do that with movies today). Mellifluous music throughout including a sprightly tune accompanying the opening credits and a pretty French song called 'Merci Beaucoup'.
